Native Veterans Assistance Fund

NVAF is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization that serves all Native Veterans seeking assistance on the East coast and eventually in the United States.  With the appalling rates of suicide among veterans returning to their homelands, it is a much-needed service organization to save lives and improve opportunities for Disabled Veteran success.

Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF) support our veterans that begins with programs that invest in food security,                         emergency relief, education, and health and wellness — helping ensure that Native veterans and their families have

the resources they need to thrive.

NVAF works directly with Program partners, Tribal leaders, community partners, and local volunteers to deliver critical

services where they’re needed most. Whether through delivering food boxes to Veteran Elders, supporting

education programs for Native youth, or helping communities prepare for emergencies, our work reflects the same

spirit of service that Native veterans embody.

The goal is to help Native Veterans by soliciting, receiving, distributing and growing funds for services through a network of agencies and programs that serve our target population groups.  Our services include food programs, energy assistance, housing assistance, educational resources, and counseling referrals that provides opportunities for self-sufficiency activities and quality of life improvements for Native Veterans. Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF)  receives support from individuals, charitable organizations and corporate sponsorship.

100% of Native Veterans qualify for assistance from Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF) . Our client base is low-income people, mainly Native Veterans and their families, who need help to survive on or near impoverished facilities.

It is estimated that the number of veterans who need services from Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF)  will increase during the next five years. A limited number of programs exist to help Native Vets, and very few that offer assistance to veterans on household facilities. Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF) will be an important resource to Native Veteran programs because we can respond quickly with the one of the most important resources these families need. Food!

When Being Disabled Is a Disability

Getting a job is hard for many disabled native veterans. And even when they find work, their disability sometimes makes it difficult for them to stay on the job. Nearly three-in-ten native veterans say their impairment prevented them from getting or keeping a job at some point in their working lives.

Those with the greatest degree of disability encountered the most obstacles in the workplace. Two-thirds of those who are 100% disabled say their impairment has prevented them from getting a job. In contrast, only about 15% of those who had a disability rating of less than 30% experienced similar problems.

Regardless of when they served, many veterans with a service-connected disability work in the public sector, where they get an advantage when applying for a job. Still, a majority of employed native veterans are in the private sector.

One out of ten veterans alive today were wounded while serving and countless others are disabled after leaving the military. Many native veterans also suffer from invisible disabilities such as PTSD or traumatic brain injury (TBI). For these native veterans, returning to normal life can be challenging.  Fortunately, many charities are dedicated to supporting disabled veterans and helping them to integrate back into society.

NATIVE VETERAN ASSISTANCE FUND (NVAF) provides basic needs for disabled veterans through their Health and

Comfort Program. They distribute kits with items such as toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner to veterans

in need, to better reach veterans in the community. For native veterans with PTSD, they provide resources for education

and treatment, as well as online videos of support and encouragement. The charity also provides grants to nonprofits and

charities that focus on the physical and mental recovery of disabled veterans.

They also host outdoor events including hunting, fishing, and golfing as well as peer-to-peer mentoring for native

                     veterans.

Our services improve the ability of native veterans to care for their children and achieve goals of self-sufficiency. Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF) services, now, are a small investment in comparison to cost of ignoring the problems our Disabled Veterans are facing in this country.

The mission of Native Veterans Assistance Fund (NVAF) is to help Native Veterans through networks of agencies and programs, as well as provide opportunities for self-sufficiency.
